Elevenses? Afternoon tea? Midnight snack?

Elevenses

Many people are in the habit of eating something mid-morning. Some even snack all day long. If you miss breakfast you often need a snack well before lunch. Even with a substantial breakfast people can feel the need for a snack. In times past, when most work was very physical, people had regular second breakfast or elevenses.

Fiber is the good carbohydrate. It digests slowly so there is no rapid spike of blood sugar like you get with refined carbohydrates, high fructose corn syrup and sugar.
In the past most breakfast cereals didn't have much fiber. With Kashi's great success all the traditional cereal makers like Post, Kellogg and General Mills are introducing high fiber cereal or increasing the fiber content in popular brands. This is great news!

These days there are many delightful choices of high fiber cereal. Traditional cereals like meusli and granola are excellent. They are made of whole grains like rolled oats mixed with dried fruits and nuts. In addition to those mentioned you can mix different cereals together...
